One of the most incredible objects American genre cinema ever produced, almost Godardian in its breakdown of images and signs into their constituents, American iconography disassembled into an array of forensic evidence — though that seems to only emerge under repeat viewing after repeat viewing, clues further extracted upon re-exposure, like Will Graham constantly revisiting, revising, re-narrating the crime scenes.
