Luke Compton’s review published on Letterboxd:
People say that this film is more of a drama than a typical Darren Aronofsky film. I'd argue with that because this film is just as heartbreaking and intimate as his other films. It's a searing character study about a guy who only has one thing in his life, but times have changed.
I was going to give this film 4 stars, and it deserves just as much, but I couldn't resist the extra half star because, despite knowing the ending years before watching, I still cried. Tears were streaming down my face at the ending. It was just incredible.
Christ. While writing that, I got goosebumps. Great movie. Slow burn but solid payoff. Heartbreaking.
