I'll never understand people who hate this movie and I'm done trying to. Luke's arc is beautiful, everything it should've been and more going off of what was set up in TFA. Poe becomes a more fully realized character. Rey and Kylo's dynamic is everything. Finn'a storyline, while definitely the weakest, is still a lot of fun and not the disgrace to cinema everyone says it is. This being Carrie Fisher's actual final performance as Leia is extremely fitting.
Can we talk about how gorgeous this thing is? Holy shit. Johnson and Yedlin are one of the best director/cinematographer pairs out there. How about the fact that the incredible moment where all three plotlines converge (the throne room scene, Finn and Rose being captured, and the lightspeed ram) which would be the climactic part of any other movie, is merely the end of the second act? We still get the entire battle on Crait afterwards! This is what blockbuster filmmaking is all about, people!
Rian Johnson knows and understands exactly what Star Wars is really about. I don't know of The Rise if Skywalker will be a good conclusion. I don't know if we're still gonna get Rian's trilogy. But regardless of what happens, we'll always have this movie and I'll always be grateful for that.
