Synecdoche, New York

well for a film about not being understood it certainly conveyed that feeling because I understood absolutely none of it. I think I can understand why this resonates with people but honestly I don’t even feel like I can fairly give it a rating because as a film it demands analysis and feels as if it can only really be appreciated as it was intended if you watch it with a pen and paper and take notes throughout. I’m as much a fan of Kaufman as the next filmbro, and I really enjoy his writing- I think honestly I’d probably love to just read the script for this instead- but something about the way it’s been filmed is so uncomfortable for my viewing that there’s no way I can give it the respect it’s demanding because it just hurt my head to watch. But if you love it I totally get that and that’s fine, this kind of filmmaking just isn’t for me lol
