Breanna’s review published on Letterboxd:
Watching this again was great, it's even better than I remembered.
The unflinching realism contrasts, occasionally awkwardly, with the stylized "social issue" scenes, but it still creates an interesting tone (your mileage may vary on the occasional heavy handedness). Plus, it's hard not to be in awe when Lawrence Fishburne gives a lecture on the history of poverty in black communities. It's seriously intelligent and important stuff, and should be screened for US teens everywhere.
