A gentle coming-of-age story.
I generally like my cinema to be at least a bit extreme or unconventional, and Lady Bird is the opposite of that, but it's flawlessly executed, and pleasant enough. Very perceptive on growing pains and tricky family and friendship relationships. The passing of time over Lady Bird's (Ronan's) final school year is well-paced and smooth. Warm hearted and subtly humorous at all times—I especially like the witty editing in the montage sequences.
Features the trope of an adult woman in the lead role playing a high school kid, but she's totally convincing.
My only quibble really is the soundtrack, which is mainly fey and a bit drippy.
