Excellence in escalation
I really liked Midsommar when I first saw it a couple months ago, but after seeing this new cut last night, I think I love it.
The director’s cut doesn’t drastically change the movie but it does flesh it out and just gives more little character moments that I really appreciated. The cinematography blew me away even more on this rewatch. It’s truly one of the most gorgeous movies I’ve seen. Besides the cinematography, the thing I think I was most impressed with on this rewatch was just how beautifully executed this story was. It’s deliberately paced, gives out information right when it needs to, and escalates the events perfectly to lead us toward one hell of a finale. This is easily one of my favorite movies of the year.
