Matt’s review published on Letterboxd:
Solo is surprisingly good and just a fun summer blockbuster. I thought Alden Ehrenreich was just going to ruin this one for me, but he actually did a good job and grew on me as the movie went along. The whole cast is great and the relationship between Ehrenreich and Emilia Clarke is a highlight. The movie really picks up in the second half when Donald Glover shows up and crushes it as Lando, and it's a real blast all the way to the end. Also, there is a cameo which I won't spoil, but it made pretty much everyone in my theater gasp. I was ecstatic haha.
I still wish we could have seen Lord and Miller's version of Solo, but what we ended up with is an entertaining, albeit somewhat safe and conventional, summer blockbuster.
