In the Mood for Love

In the Mood for Love ★★★★★

"Feelings can creep up just like that. I thought I was in control."

I almost cried again just looking at quotes.

I can't really properly review this film. Not yet. But I want to write a few scattered thoughts about it.

-I don't watch a lot of films like this but there are few directors that can depict human emotion - specifically, love and longing - as well as Wong Kar-wai. His movies are literally like making emotion tangible.

-The color in this is simply stunning. Red, of course, is prominent, but no color of the rainbow is left out. Maggie Chung's wardrobe alone is so brilliant and vibrant, each one of her dresses an individual work of art. Those gorgeous green cups and plates they use when they meet to discuss their spouses affair. The red curtains. It's breathtaking.

-It's so fucking smart that neither Mr. Chan or Mrs. Chow ever show up on screen.

-Nearly every time we see Mrs. Chan and Mr. Chow, they are confined. Whether through a cab window, or we're peering at them through a full closet, seeing their reflections in the mirror, or when they're framed in doorways - so many times are they framed in doorways. It doesn't take a genius to figure out what this is supposed to mean (I mean, I get it and I'm dumb)

-I can't wait to watch this again and also I don't know if I ever can.

-My heart hurts so much.
