Nope

Nope ★★★

"Nope" has some great cinematography from Hoyte van Hoytema, incredibly interesting design choices, a unique Western setting, and plenty of laugh-out-loud dialogue. It also frustratingly lacks any character development and bogs down an intriguing Carpenter-esque sci-fi horror idea with an overly dense narrative without thematic weight.

Peele proves again that he has both a heady and creative mind, but he struggles to have the individual parts come together into a cohesive whole. "Nope" is certainly fun at times; it's just also so messy. I still think Peele has a true masterpiece in him, though. One day.
