The Devil All the Time

The Devil All the Time ★★★★

Huge fan of this. Dark, grim, unrelenting - all words I can use to describe this movie. It’s almost like punishment watching this generational cycle of human violence, hypocrisy, and vengeance at times, but the payoff is worth it in the end. It's also beautifully shot and scored, as well as exquisitely paced, weaving in and out of different stories and time periods, connecting them as it goes. The ensemble cast is incredibly talented and there's not a weak performer in the bunch. Still, Holland stands out, offering just a sliver of light in a lot of darkness. It's probably his career best and time to stop thinking of him as just that kid in a Spidey suit who is great at quips. As harrowing as this film was, it's a movie that I expect to stay on my mind and one that I actually want to watch again now knowing how things intersect.
