Carol

Carol

"I don't know what I want. How could I when I just say yes to everything?"

A beautifully intimate examination of the oppression in heterosexual conformity and an even more thought provoking and touching exploration of how love surpasses gender or science. "Carol" is absolutely remarkable with its wonderful performances and chemistry from Rooney and Cate, as well as its beautifully flourished cinematography. Todd Haynes goes above and beyond in making not only one of the most affectionate films of the year, but brings the 1950's to life in such a real way. This shouldn't be viewed as a film that is saying "oh man, the 50's sucked! glad things have gotten better!" but just more importantly a statement on the shackles of unwanted relationships and societal expectations. This is a wonderful, WONDERFUL film.
