tick, tick...BOOM!

Had low expectations and was pretty taken with this from the opening number. A big surprise for me since I never bought into the Rent fandom, and found Fosse/Verdon mostly unwatchable.

I think it could’ve been a little more condemning of Larson’s character and cockiness, but Garfield really embodies the role with such empathy that it almost doesn’t matter. It looked great with some nice grain, and totally captured the seediness of where Larson lived. Lin could go either way, making another movie or never making one again, but I’d like to see him do another.

At the end of the day, a movie with Bradley Whitford as Sondheim opposite Richard Kind… plus the diner scene featuring Bebe Neuwirth can’t be bad! With Bebe’s cameo in this and Harriet Sansom Harris in Licorice P, it’s a good time to be a Frasier fan at the movies.
