Solo: A Star Wars Story ★★

Somebody take the shovel away from Kathleen Kennedy before she digs this grave any deeper.

Solo's airless in the same way Rogue One was, aggressively pushing the audience to believe they're excited when the on-screen action could scarcely feel more pointless or boring. From Ron Howard's workmanlike direction to Alden Ehrenreich's crummy Harrison Ford impression to a script that feels culled together from drafts by fifteen different fanboys, it's hard to pin down where exactly this goes wrong... L3, the worst comic relief droid ever, and the dreadful set-up for another stand-alone are low points in a film that's continuously running downhill.
