• Lake Bodom

    Lake Bodom

Lake Bodom starts off pretty strong, with a great set up, an interesting background story and decent characters.
During the first half hour the film follows the typical slasher structure, and does a great job at it. But then it tries to innovate by adding multiple twists that don't fully work and the film just takes a wrong turn.

These multiple twists also cause the opposite effect of their purpose, since the story becomes boring and monotonous right away. It's unavoidable to stop…

  • The New Mutants

    The New Mutants

Not as bad as i thought it'd be but still pretty bad 🙄

It tries to be a horror film but it's filled with dumb dialogue and cringy scenes that absorb all the horror.

It's funny how the main character has the worst background story. There are more interesting characters but the film doesn't fully exploit them as it should (for instance, Magik's story with the smiling men, which we don't really know much of).

There also are some issues with the editing...…

  • The Craft

    The Craft

    HORRORX52 Challenge - 5th pick.

Wow this was way darker than I thought it'd be. The whole film was different from what i expected but i still enjoyed it!

I wish I had seen this earlier... it's obviously far from perfect, but the chemistry between the girls is enough to keep you hooked throghout the whole film.

Something that grabbed my attention is how well the two main characters were written, to the point where you find yourself rooting for the villain…

  • Tremors

It's been a long time since I've seen something as fun as Tremors!! I didn't think I'd like this as much as I did. The film works so well mainly for two reasons:

Firstly, it has a perfect cast. It's such a fun and eclectic group - right from the start you can feel the chemistry between all the characters, who don't seem actors but real people who have been living there all their lives. The script also gives time for each character…

  • The Love Witch

    The Love Witch

It was fun during the first half hour but then i started noticing how nothing was really making sense 😭

I loved the technicolor look but i needed something more than that...

  • Becky

Becky is a perfect watch for a friday night: it's fun, crazy, and brutal, but it somehow feels unfinished.

It has a very simple plot, which doesn't allow you to fully immerse into the story, and the characters aren't very well defined either... but Lulu Wilson does a good job carrying the whole film, which also has some great gore scenes that somehow manage to save the day.

  • Triangle

    HORRORx52 Challenge - 4th pick.

    *Spoilers FREE*✅

I really loved this one!! I can't believe it's from the same guy who wrote and directed Creep (which I hated).

This film is extremely creative. The setting, the script, the editing... everything was different but in a good way, it felt fresh.

All the performances were spot (which is hard to find in horror films lately) but Melissa George really takes the biscuit. Despite the difficult role she plays, she carries the entire…

  • Phone Booth

    Phone Booth

I've been really busy lately but i finally got some
time for myself, so i decided to give this one a try.

I remember going to the video store as a kid and always seeing this one on the "Top Rented VHS" shelf. Funny how i ended up watching it on Disney+.

Honestly i thought this was going to be more tense and suffocating. It never gets boring but i expected it to be a more "on the edge of…

  • Creep

Creep has everthing that could be done wrong in a horror film. Mix bad editing, bad writing, (very) stupid character decisions and an overexposed monster and you'll get this.

Franka Potente plays as Kate, who i have to say is one of the most unlikeable main characters i have ever seen in a horror flick. The writers try to fix this issue halfway through the film by resorting to physical pain, something that doesn't work and basically exposes the lazy writing behind the…

  • Promising Young Woman

    Promising Young Woman

Despite the rushed and anticlimatic ending (which didn't really make a lot of sense) I enjoyed this more than i expected.

Promising Young Woman is one of those films that could've gone really bad, but apart from the ending everything else worked pretty well for me.
The two hours flew by and I appreciate the dark humor, which was very brave to put in, considering the controversy this film could've already faced just by itself and the topics it touches.

I also couldn't stop paying attention to the the production design, everything was so beautiful!!

  • What We Do in the Shadows

What We Do in the Shadows

First pick from my HORRORx52 challenge.

I didn't know what to expect from this because i hadn't read any synopsis or watched any trailers, but after having watched it i can confirm that just made the whole experience a lot better.

I really don't know how to describe this film: it's crazy, bizarre, funny, original... some of the scenes are HILARIOUS and overall the whole film just felt lime a breath of fresh air.
Definitely a great start for my first ever letterboxd challenge.

  • The Midnight Sky

    The Midnight Sky

This wasn't horrible but it was quite disappointing and boring.
It tries to be a sci-fi drama with some touches of comedy but it ends up losing its balance way too many times.

Some of the visual effects were really good, but at the same time there's scenes where they look like they were done by a 3 years old 🥴

Overall it was decent but i think if someone else had directed this it could've been a great film.
I enjoyed the "Sweet Caroline" scene though
