This wrecked me. I'm a huge mess. It's unfair, I wasn't prepared. I thought it was going to be another (fantastic) body horror type thriller from Tsukamoto and it's actually one of the most beautiful movies about human suffering ever made. Whole thing is this stupidly perfect, uncharacteristically restrained, tonal poem about loss, physical and mental trauma caused through loss, and the way our memories alter themselves through those experiences so we don't go crazy.
