Her ★★★★

In all the things a movie can be good at, I think this one was. Some of my favorite were the acting, the mishmash cityscape they created, the costumes, how it seemed like they lived in a world that wasn’t theatrically and overly “advanced”. Joaquin Phoenix went back and forth between pitiful and (relatively) normal so much...It involved a lot of constantly reading the characters around him and their reactions to what he said, especially with the sex scenes which were so hard to watch agh! But amy didn’t seem phased by sex so it’s all relative of course...but then again rooney mara/catherine was appalled at the idea of their relationship at all so it makes you think....

It was impossible to forget how big and full of people this world was, though those people appeared more often as isolated individuals or couples, rarely in groups, living equally complex lives with (perhaps) their own AI baes. More like grains of rice than droplets of water. This film is a lot farther from fiction today than it was at its release.
