There’s a better film in here than we get, I suspect.
It’s perky, bright and full of spunk, but it’s also enormously earnest in the positive, feminine young adult message it bludgeons you with. Not to mention the rather ham fisted attempts to draw 19th century parallels with the decay of modern Britain.
Millie Bobby Brown is having fun but Henry Cavill just doesn’t have the chops to pull off Sherlock, it’s way too long, the script is all over the shop and the direction is relatively uninspired.
Just tries a bit too hard, but I am more than aware it’s probably not meant for me.
