Thank you @Gabby ✨ for moving this up my watchlist! I might not have watched it in time for the actual scavenger hunt I picked it for, but I still got around to it.

And I enjoyed this! Not my favorite horror movie or horror-comedy, but I appreciated the meta commentary and it was a lot scarier than I thought it would be. Wes Craven really knew where to put the camera to heighten the effect of the scares, I was on the edge of my seat each time the music ramped up and I knew something was coming. Still, it's generally pretty predictable, there aren't any fake scares, and the music does make it pretty obvious when a jump scare is coming. I enjoyed it nonetheless though.

I think I probably would have enjoyed it more if I was more versed in horror-lore, given that I've only really scratched the surface of the classics in the horror genre. Of the movies Scream references the most, I've only seen Psycho and Halloween. So I'll probably revisit it once I see Elm Street and Friday the 13th and the like.

This also did make me want to dive deeper into Craven's filmography. As I said above, I really dug the directorial style to this one. Also, the first scene is absolutely iconic and truly a tremendous way to start off the film. Probably one of my favorite horror movie openings ever.
