    Two Distant Strangers

This is a complicated little film. I love the premise! It’s a clever spin on the Groundhog Day idea that adds a relevant and thoughtful element to it. Unfortunately, it doesn’t fully work for me because the message is lost. It really gets lost in the films final moments, when instead of showing a way forward the film opts for something more shocking and ultimately void of meaning. Police brutality is complicated topic and it’s quite contentious right now, which…

    His Girl Friday

Another classic Cary Grant performance! His excellence never grows tiresome. His charm, humor and command of character and story is nearly unmatched. The Way Back

The Way Back is a solid film. Ben Affleck gives a great performance and is essentially what makes the whole thing work. He’s captivating, vulnerable and very enjoyable to watch. It does hit a lot of the typical sports movie cliches but it lacks real investment for it to…

    The Prestige

The Prestige checks a lot of boxes for me. Rebecca Hall and Scarlett Johansson are two of my favorite actors, Christian Bale is a performer I admire and I really like Hugh Jackman. It’s about magic, which I find very interesting and it’s a thought provoking story with earned twists. On a meta level, The Prestige may be the film that says the most about Nolan as a storyteller. The concept is how he likes to tell his stories (especially…
