Ran ★★★★½

I came into this thinking it was a direct adaptation of Lear relocated to Japan, but Ran is just as much it’s own entity as it is inspired by Lear. It feels like a discredit to just say Ran is an adaptation. Immaculate framing, I want to blow up shot after shot to frame.

My only complaint was it *felt* long, but that’ll be remedied on the next viewing where this will probably move up to 5 stars; a trend for me that I’ve noticed with, not just Kurosawa, but arthouse in general. It’s genuinely impossible to gather anywhere near close to everything in one viewing.
