The animation is stunningly beautiful not just because of the requisite skill but because almost every frame is pumped through the emotional point of view of our twin characters, lending every landscape, every piece of architecture or falling comet an added depth of feeling. Shinkai taps into that deep reservoir common to all human beings, that search for one's home and the people and places that constitute it.
Your Name is probably the most emotionally full and hopeful piece of work I've seen from 2016, I left entirely edified and-
