'Into the Spider-verse' sets the bar real high last year, but it's safe to say that 'Far from Home' doesn't fall far behind from its animated counterpart in terms of excitement. The rom-com approach sure work wonders as it gives the film a sense of freshness in a bloated, seemingly never-ending universe.
The film starts with a lot of promises: wall-to-wall action sequences (no pun intended), Jake Gyllenhaal rocking a Mysterio suit, and some jokes that worked quite well. On top of that, the visual panache keeps viewers on board.
The weariness kicks in when the second and final act begins to unravel. Everything feels slightly overdone, especially in the humour department. But you can't fault Jon Watts' effort, it's a decent sequel and it sets up for an interesting third installment.
