I’ve never watched a Hartley movie and not have it light an artistic fire under my ass.
This should have rocked cinemas.
Its only great flaw is some chintzy CGI that’s endemic not just to steaming releases but to modern genre filmmaking in general. No worse than you’ve seen in some major franchise entries this year, and at least this has the dignity of putting it in actual, physical, atmospheric environments.
Takes many a great lesson from McTiernan and uses them to push against the worst instincts of franchise culture. Remove any previous knowledge of the Predator franchise…
