Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018)
"I hate you."
Seeing as I'm hopefully going to see Rise of the Skywalker next weekend once my Star Wars Blu-rays come, I decided to watch another one of the Star Wars Stories to get me ready for it, I'm surprised I didn't watch this sooner.
During an adventure into the criminal underworld, Han Solo (Aiden Ehrenreich) meets his future co-pilot Chewbacca (Joonas Suotamo) and encounters Lando Calrissian (Donald Glover) years before joining the Rebellion.
Aiden Ehrenreich I gotta give this man credit, he does a great job of portraying a younger Han Solo and it is nice to see his development in this story, Han Solo is one of my favourite Star Wars characters and I think this movie shows why he is, the rest of the cast also do a neat job including Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian but they come nowhere close to Harrison Ford and Billy Dee Williams in my eyes.
This is a real fun adventure and has some neat action scenes in, it's a real sit back and enjoy kinda movie and I would take this over Rogue One due to the fact it's an Han Solo adventure and is pretty action packed.
While I did enjoy parts of the origin story, I do not like some of the parts that they did include and while I like the idea of Han's backstory in the movies being left a mystery seeing as we all have our predictions for what Han was doing before Star Wars, there are some parts of the story I liked and some I didn't although him and Chewie bonding was probably my favourite part of the movie and Emilia Clarke did a good job as serving as his love interest.
Also I didn't like some of the cinemotography, I feel like it's too bleak compared to the poster for the movie but it does have some nice shots in it, I just wish it was lit more brightly.
I think this film has a good start and middle but the third act is 50/50 for me and it just feels a bit too complex for a Star Wars film but doesn't go too over the top and sets up Han for Star Wars nicely.
Overall Solo: A Star Wars Story is a pretty good attempt at a Han Solo story and while not one of my favourites, I can see myself watching this again, just a fun solid popcorn entertainment flick.
