Yeah... hanging a lampshade on how uncomfortably the other films have aged while still doing the same sort of uncomfortable crap doesn't make it much better, guys.

There really is lot to appreciate about The Birds. Hitchcock's answer to the monster movie is skin crawlingly suspenseful in the lead up to every bird attack, and the attacks themselves are so visceral in that you can almost feel the panic of being swarmed. The avoidance of so many horror tropes of the day also makes it surprisingly unpredictable. My major nitpick would be that I found myself getting impatient with the slow burn buildup of the first act.
