Alternate title: Iron Chef
Alternate, alternate title: John Wick: Reloaded
I remember liking John Wick: Chapter 2 more than John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum (they need some help with the titles) but now I think I've flip flopped. It's still too long with a bunch of faceless goons getting offed and the only reason John (everyone's favorite human Keanu Reeves) survives this time is because some of the middle and upper tier henchmen give him a bunch of second tries even though they have a clear kill and then he kills them a few minutes later so it stretches even the made up logic of this universe to the breaking point, especially considering the first three films all seem to take place within maybe two weeks of each other and there's no way John should be walking, let alone punching and kicking people to death after all the damage he's taken.
I complained last time about the fights being kind of dull and I liked the variety a little more here. The knife throwing in the first half and the Skyfall -esque final battle with secret ingredient Mark Dacascos was pretty good with an actually memorable villain in Dacascos' Zero.
Still don't think either sequel matches the simple elegance of the original but this at least didn't feel as forgettable as the middle chapter.
I guess I'm ready for John Wick: Chapter 4 - Electric Boogaloo now.
