A Simple Plan ★★★

Moral decency being buried by layer upon layer of snow, until it's all gone. Not sure it makes for a great movie (each character being mostly unlikable and stupid makes for a cold — no pun — experience), but I did love the dynamic between Paxton, Thornton and Briscoe. Thornton in particular shines with a combination of playfulness and tragedy – a scene like the one with the tape recorder outweighs the parts that drag.
