Of course this was a very good movie with amazing acting; but it’s edge is that it was thoroughly entertaining. It’s really bitter sweet for me that this one swept away Oscars. Bitter because it’s not even Bong Joon-Ho’s best movie, and far from the best Korean/Japanese movie of the last two decades. Sweet because maybe, finally, movie watchers would try more Korean or Japanese movies and get introduced to the wide spectrum of phenomenal movies they produce year after year all of which go almost unnoticed. And again, bitter because it’s only after winning an Oscar that a director gets the attention he/she deserves. Oscars, you overrated monster!
