    The Neon Demon

    ★★★★½

I feel very strongly that Neon Demon is not a projection for the consumer. It's a mosaic for the creator. It's a neon anti-christ of the entertainment industry that creators either venomously salivate to be or a macabre anathema nightmare of power that creators fear in their spines. Perhaps it's both.

Elliot Schrage once typed breath into a fervently favorited quote of mine: "every creation myth needs a devil."

    All That Jazz

    ★★★★½

Editing and Cinematography mix and shake into an intoxicating kiss of death that rapturously reminds ego that the show must go on. All cradled in a soft final croon that beyond the lights and music, finds pain as the substance of living and legacy as the lily of the lonely.

Hilarious, often confusing, and a remarkable anti-thesis to the bleakness that we’ve grown to know Lanthimos for. Lanthimos on buddy comedy is stylishly unique and wickedly under appreciated. I’m glad to see his comedic finger tips resurfacing back in The Favourite this year.
