Out of all the sequels and reboots fuelled by 80s nostalgia in the posts 2010s, who’d have thought Top Gun Maverick would be the pinnacle of them all?
Not only a great sequel that respects Tony Scott’s pop culture iconography, but a soulful Legacy sequel too.
So much will be said about the spectacle and I can barely do it justice here. Unbelievable set pieces, tension and quite frankly - it just goes really fucking hard.
Honestly, films like this are why I love films so much. Tom Cruise, the last movie star.
EDIT: full review here
Simu Liu smoked everyone in a pair of Jordans. You cannot mess with this heat.
Time. A force that we have determined to be a construct that we abide by. Can we ever really feel the importance of it going by us, second by second? Perhaps we should try.
ARRIVAL is profound yet minimalist. A gorgeous study of the entity that we try to appease everyday and the choices we must face. Villenueve and Young are a godsend combo, coming straight after two Villeneuve / Deakins collabs (Prisoners , Sicario). ARRIVAL shares more in common with Enemy but on a flipped coin.
I adored this.
This year really is the year for Spider-Man.
Emotionally charged and charmingly wholesome, Into The Spider-Verse is a bombastic tale that is only exceeded by its stunning animation style.
Might be a 5 on rewatch tbh.
