I am so sorry (to myself) for not watching this faster.
It is, by far, the scariest movie I've ever seen (surpassing Sinister). God, I could barely sleep the night after. Not even fully sure what exactly it was but euuuugh I just felt so uncomfortable and icky afterwards.
The film manages to tap into fears rooted in reality, the supernatural and in the existential, whilst wrapping that all into a pitch perfect mockumentary, which only enhances the unwaveringly realistic nature of it all.
Somehow, Lake Mungo found a way to combine the horrors of the scariest films I've seen (Sinister, Pulse (Kairo), The Bay and The Ring) into a singular film...
Counting this as a win for Australia!
