Letterboxd — Your life in film

it was fun aside from the blatant sexism

only criticism is that minami had more chemistry with akira than sudo

maybe I cried

just when you think it can’t get any crazier, it does EVERY SINGLE TIME

at 2:30 run time, I couldn’t consume this movie in one sitting not because of how long it is, but how batshit it is and i needed to process it before continuing. even when i went to bed i was thinking about it. it’s a long movie, but it doesn’t feel like it at all

we could’ve had an animated musical film with an all asian cast be a box office hit if a) this was distributed in theaters and b) we weren’t in a pandemic and that makes me sad!!

I didn’t know about this history!!! I wish this movie was more accessible here in the states so that I could show it to other people. I really felt like I got a glimpse of life of Japanese immigrants back then

this is the first time watching this movie in ten+ years and as adult, and wow I could really do without the romance scenes to add more scenes of women supporting each other

the imagery was gorgeous but i’m not quite sure who’s supposed to be the focus of the story? also the mystery element seemed... unnecessary

necessary viewing in 2020. 40+ years and barely anything has changed.
