Alternatively titled Red is the Most Stressful Color.
Cries and Whispers is one of the many Bergman films that I can’t quite get a grasp on, but the emotion of it ran through me regardless. It’s melodramatic and exaggerated in the most honest way. The shifting perspectives between the four women was fascinating, and their relationships to one another were relatable and foreign all at once. So much goes unspoken in family, so much tension and resentment hidden away. It was magnificent to see that revealed here in such a striking, hypnotizing way.
