Jacob’s review published on Letterboxd:
Grainy movies about anxious and chaotic characters are my favorite sub-genre from the 1970s, and Mikey and Nicky fits right in. I would've liked a much stronger arc though, or just a sense of forward momentum to keep me interested in this throughout. The chaotic energy of the beginning quickly plateaus, but I always enjoyed the feel of it. Falk and Cassavetes did such great work together.
I don't know whether to be fascinated or terrified by the information that Elaine May shot about 250+ hours of raw footage for this. In this moment, I'll go with terrified.
