When my family first got a dvd player, the second dvd my dad got was Wings of Desire - the first was Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. My dad sat me down and said he was gonna show me a REAL movie. Years later, after my dad had passed away, I revisited Wings of Desire and I was just as in awe.

This movie shaped who I was. All the times my dad yelled at me for wearing all black and…

This is such a charming film. I love The Talking Heads but for some reason, never knew this film existed until recently and finally got a chance to check it out recently. I truly loved it. It reminded me of what Wes Anderson is trying to do but he is too robotic to achieve or what David Lynch would be like if he was wholesome. What a nice movie. Odd without being offputting, offbeat with a lot of heart.

This is an absolutely brutal watch but the animation is ridiculous. Like truly stunning. I would give this movie a big content warning for rape and anyone who has been in an abusive relationship or has ptsd should probably proceed with caution but there is an offchance those who have been through the wringer will find it cathartic, as I did. I definitely had to watch Paddington 2 the day after I watched this though. Bless Paddington!
