Manhunter

Manhunter ★★★★

There aren't many productions more lean and tight than a 1980s Michael Mann joint, and this only maybe suffers from one flaw -- a mid-stream info dump of the tragic circumstances Will Graham faced as relayed to his young son, a convenient way of expositing his history before the film. Nonetheless, Billy Petersen is great as a haunted and hungry Graham, FBI profiler extraordinaire, and Tommy Noonan started his creepy reign of terror as hairlip psychopath Francis Dolarhyde. Brian Cox steals the few scenes he's in as photo-Lector, setting the stage for 1990's "Silence of the Lambs." This viewing, I saw a lot of the DNA for Nic Pizzolatto's "True Detective" season one...
