    The Purple Rose of Cairo

The Purple Rose of Cairo could be absolutely horrifying, with its implications about the wasted and repetitive life of fictional characters in the movies and never really succeeds in steering clear from this reality, which makes it hard to fully emrbace the light themes it commits to. I guess the concept of the film is fun, but Mia Farrow's acting was more and more irritating with every passing minute and the way it botches its ending bordered on insulting, so though I didn't hate the film, I couldn't enjoy it neither.

    Broken Embraces

Though it has a few excellent scenes here and there, notably that of the kiss before the death of one of its main characters, and though it gives us a perfect ending to what it spent its runtime building up to, Broken Embraces ultimately relies a little too much on its double mise en abyme and comes out as somewhat gimmicky because of this. Penélope Cruz is superb, however, and so is Lluís Homar.

    Ready Player One

Wow. I'm not sure where to start and I'm not sure how I can coherently state how insulted I was by Ready Player One, so I'll tackle it in point form. As a full disclaimer, I read and really enjoyed the book, and though the movie is really different from the book, I'm not mad it took its liberties with the story, but its differences did taint my opinion, as some minor tweaks for the sake of reaching a larger…
