I was talking to a male friend recently who spoke about how well this film works because the truth of the story is unknown. Did Rosemary really bear the Devil's child? Or did she have a psychotic break? Or etc. I realized I'd never had those types of thoughts about the film. I might be willing to accept the Devil as a metaphor, but yes, Rosemary was raped. Yes, Rosemary's body was being used for the gain of others. Yes, her maternal instinct would be used as a cudgel against her. Obviously. Makes me wish I could break letterboxd's star rating down by gender...
