Ana V’s review published on Letterboxd:
“The thread that binds us can never be broken.”
To the surprise of absolutely no one Alfonso Cuarón was right: this movie is a goddamn masterpiece.
The slow pace of the first act gets swallowed up by the sheer momentum that builds during the second act, which then explodes in a flurry of stunning visuals and fantastic action sequences that make your jaw physically drop during the finale.
Anya Taylor-Joy and Alexander Skarsgard are one of the onscreen couples with the best chemistry I’ve ever seen, which should be expected given they’re a pair of superstars. It’s not an exaggeration to say Shakespearean lines have never sounded as good as when said by them.
With this magnum opus, Robert Eggers finally cements himself as one of the best auteurs working today.
