It's definitely quite unique, and there's some creativity put into it. There are a couple of cool musical sequences, and the cinematography and production design are top-notch. It's quite astonishing in some ways, but the results are often underwhelming.

I barely could stand Adam Driver singing or playing the comedian scenes, not just because he's an unlikeable character, but also because he's extremely boring on-screen. There are some bland musical numbers too.

Marion Cotillard is a brilliant actress, and she delivered what, in my opinion, is one of the best performances in movie history as Edith Piaf in La Môme (2007). However, her enormous talent is somehow wasted in this film. Simon Helberg's performance is definitely the standout.

I admire this project because of how weird and adventurous it is, but I have to say that I like more what this film tries to accomplish, than what it ends up being. There's a lot to appreciate here, but there's also plenty to become disenchanted with.
