Drive My Car 2021
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
I think the next to last scene is truly one of the most moving things I’ve ever seen in a film. Summing everything up, transcending language, Misaki’s face in the audience. In a way I wish it was the final scene in the movie, but bringing it into our current reality and also ending with just Misaki (and a dog) feels so right.
The French Dispatch 2021
Impeccably made and visually stunning obviously. But by far Wes Anderson’s least emotional and least meaningful film. An assemblage of “gotta hand it to him” camera stuff, half-baked stories and quarter-baked characters. The 18-23 year old in me screams for his first three movie which still fully hold up. 40 year old me should move on.
