A madcap, twisted musical road comedy with allusions to the Wizard of Oz and Elvis Presley. That's the most simple way to summarise David Lynch's originally divisive yet positively re-evaluated 1990 film starring Nicolas Cage (at his delirious best) and Laura Dern (quite amiable in her role). It does defy generic classification however, as Wild at Heart is uneven, fascinatingly outrageous, bizarrely grotesque piece of cinema with eroticism, violence and some wickedly funny, superbly inventive stuff.
