Andrew🪐’s review published on Letterboxd:
I had the chance to see an advanced screening of Eternals at the Rome film festival and I’ll say that it’s absolutely mind-blowing. This vast modernized myth has it all: well-rounded characters, each guided by their believes and their stories, colossal world-building, amazing visuals and a tale that is as epic as it is moving.
The story covers many current topics thanks to the variegate spectrum of characters and to the storytelling procedure, which uses perfectly arranged flashbacks, that rarely undermine the pacing, to add layers to both plot and protagonists.
The action sequences are well-choreographed and shot beautifully, just like the rest of the movie. I’m not exaggerating when I say the cinematography is probably the best out of all the MCU movies, you can really tell that they mostly shot on location.
The biggest pro for me is that this movie really stands on its own, it only tangentially touches upon what we already know of the MCU and takes its time to fix its foundations in order to offer one of the most introspective third acts we’ve seen in a MCU movie.
A true success on all fronts, bravo.
