    Crimson Gold

The lead character in Crimson Gold may come across as mentally ill but Panahi posits him as a terrifying innocent who gets shocked/corrupted by the society and the system that surrounds him.
He reminded me of a few of Fassbinder's protags. This is one of the few Iranian movies I've seen that directly reference the Iran-Iraq war. And this one does so critically.

    Report to Mother

both highly specific and universal, this rough-hewn masterpiece maybe tied to the political machinations in kerala but its anarchic spirit and cinematic energy does the sixties' new waves proud. film as an ideological scalpel used to cut through the hypocracy and the fear. Brutal, stark, uncompromising. The pain will be felt by those who understand it.
