Through a Glass Darkly 1961
Another Bergman great. A young woman's re-descent into madness amid complicated inter-relationships in her family. As usual, Bergman explores religious themes as a part of dysfunction.

Eternity and a Day 1998
Eternity and a Day open a new road for understanding the world, life, death, love poetry and child innocence. Connections are possible across age, country, culture gaps. The images are gorgeous, the slowness fits.
Most of the film's power is visual and aural. It is truly a sensual experience, along the lines of a Tarkovsky film.

The Seventh Seal has truly outstanding cinematography, some striking and very memorable sequences, terrific and poignant story. Loaded with Shakespearian inflections and philosophical introspections.

The Swimming Pool 1969
La Piscine, is a movie with a simple, sensual and tense story with a sexy beginning. One pool. Two lovers. Two guests. One an old acquaintance to one and a former lover to another; the other his daughter, a mystery to all. Hedonism, sensuality, eroticism, sexual longing and anxiety. The pace is slow, but this is not a bad thing, since it gives the story ample time in which to breathe and evolve.
