A similar situation to La La Land for me. The hype was so big that seeing it felt a little underwhelming. The first half rocks and the second half kinda drags. Both leads give great performances, but I kept thinking about The Edge of Seventeen. I found it funnier and, ultimately, the better film. I only compare the two to take a look at the hype machine. You didn't hear any awards buzz for it, but Lady Bird has all but already been nominated for an Oscar. It's all a game of timing.
Don't get me wrong. This is still a super enjoyable movie. I laughed a lot, especially at the send ups of high school theater.
