1917 ★★★½

It's fine - good even! - but besides being technically impressive (and boy, is it impressive) there's really not much else to get excited by. The story is as barebones as can be, the characters are all very, very basic, and there is nothing in here to make you think, feel or understand anything particular about war or WW1. Yes, there are trenches, but unless you have never seen trenches before, I don't think you will be surprised. Everything is more entertaining than it is scary or intimidating.

But then again, it is really entertaining..!
