The apes are so impressive in this movie. The first time they show up on screen, it's so intimidating, just the scope of them. This is not a great movie by any means, but it's probably the height of CGI artistry in the 2010s and deserves to be discussed in those terms.

Through the first thirty minutes or so, I was worried why I loved this movie on first viewing, but the last thirty minutes hit so hard. De Niro and Hathaway's friendship and acting are so singular and nuanced and deeply emotional. They say the romcom is dead, but I'd love to see the friend-com become a thing. Watching two people fall in love (platonically) is just as beautiful and worth watching as romance.
