“It’s very difficult to keep the line between the past and the present”
Welcome to the dollhouse is a painfully brilliant coming-of-age film of prepubescent adolescence. It calls to mind the movie Eighth Grade which also documents some of the most cruel and embarrassing times of growing up, except, Welcome to the Dollhouse takes on that similar plot with a lot more sadism and much less wholesomeness. This movie is sadly accurate and grotesque in it’s depiction of the desire to be loved and be beautiful. It really portrays the drama of preteen angst and the struggle of finding your own identity in an unaccepting world. It’s brutally hilarious and perfectly captures the misery that is junior high.
